Burnout Self-Test, with guidance on results

Burnout is now commonplace, with workplace burnout and growing evidence of ‘pandemic burnout’ as continued Covid lockdowns take their toll. However, despite its current high profile, the problem is anything but new.

Even before the pandemic, research from Gallup found that the risk of occupational burnout increased significantly when the working week averaged more than 50 hours, and rises even more substantially at 60 hours.

If you are working similar patterns, there’s a very strong chance that you are suffering with burnout. You might be reading this as you’ve felt some of the symptoms already. And if you are, what can you do about it?

The good news is that help is at hand.

The Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI), is the most commonly used tool to self-assess whether you might be at risk of burnout. It explores three areas: exhaustion, depersonalisation and personal achievement.

How to take the test

You can complete the MBI easily yourself, by completing our interactive PDF. We’ll ask you to keep a note of the score in each section and, at the end of the assessment there will be a link where you can go to find advice to help you manage your level of burnout.
